Anyone whoâs shopped for girlsâ clothes knows the options are limited. Take Sharon Choksiâs daughter and niece â they were looking for clothing that wasnât frilly, had âabsolutely NO sparkles, and nothing with bowsâ â it wasnât easy to find. In fact, Choksi had a hard time finding any little girlsâ clothing without hearts, flowers, and princesses on it.
So this mama decided to do some research on her own and collected boys and girls clothes from 10 of the biggest retailers that were all supposed to be for kids around the same size and age, and she measured them. Turns out, the girlsâ shirts were one to three inches skinnier, the sleeves were 36% shorter, and the shorts? They were barely a third of the length. No wonder we have dress code issues!
And that inspired Choksi to start her own clothing company, Girls Will Be. They make clothes that are âin the middle.â Their clothes are meant to showcase their interests, not their bodies. And they come in a range of colors, so if youâre looking for something other than glitter, they have it.
Girls Will Be has been very successful since they started out, showing what a need there was for clothes for girls that reflect a wide variety of interests. Choksi explains, âParents were clearly looking for clothes that defied gender stereotypes and offered girls more unlimited choices of colors, themes, and styles.â
Along with their selections of not-so-short shorts, Girls Will Be is planning to add swimsuits and pajamas to the line. And moms everywhere are happy to hear that!
